Jess & Adam hire a camper for their honeymoon in France & Italy

Our Honeymoon camper van adventure! France 22nd June to 11th July

After getting the ferry into Dunkirk we headed for the Champagne region. We avoided the hustle and bustle of Reims and went just south to Epernay, home of many famous champagne houses including Moet and Mercier (The largest and most drunk champagne in France).  The tours of Mercier are well worth the money and tasting sessions are very generous in their servings!

The local municipal campsite is about a ten minute walk from town centre.

From here we headed to Lake Annecy which is just south of Genève.  A stunning, blue fresh water lake in the foot hills of the alps surrounded by many campsites and epic scenery.  Annecy itself is a bustling little town but a 5 minutes drive either way round the lake will take you away from this.

Jess didn't realise how big the camper was until she got up close!

From here we drove through the Mont Blanc tunnel and down to the Med, coming back into France and Monaco.

Walking the circuit and checking out the huge crazy boats is something else but taking the VW round the circuit was epic and a must if your there. One of the highlights of the holiday. Doing anything else in Monaco has to be left.

After spending some time driving down the south coast of France we headed back inland to the Gorge de Verdon. It is know as Frances Grand Canyon and for good reason. Based out of Castellane we did white water rafting and canyoning which was truly breath taking at moments.

From there we headed along the canyon to the crystal blue, warm waters of lake Saint Croix. There are several campsites on the south side of the lake and a trip to the local village of Aiguines is well worth a a visit.

From here we headed across to Millau and over the bridge and up to the Dordogne where we stayed in the Château de la Couronne for a bit of luxury. I can't recommend this place enough. We booked it through Mr&Mrs Smith website which also offers some other benefits which made our stay even more special. We were very lucky that we were the only guests in the place so had it all to ourselves.

Next we started the long journey home stopping off at random little villages and vineyards until finally getting back to Dunkirk.

Sadly, after a great 3 weeks we had to hand the VW back but can't recommend it enough. A truly brilliant van, comfortable, easy and fun to drive and really did make our honeymoon the great adventure it was.
